Nowadays, coffee-lovers are spoiled for choice when it comes to the variety of methods they can use to make their daily coffee. Of course, there’s the classic Italian espresso machine, the pour-over favoured by many Americans, the French press to mention a few. Each type of coffee-maker produces a different depth of flavour, which is why so many coffee-drinkers have a favourite method. One of the newer, more popular ways to make coffee is with an AeroPress coffee maker.
The AeroPress coffee maker was invented in the last 20 years, by Alan Adler. It is a manual coffeemaker which uses a cylindrical chamber and plunger mechanism, like a syringe, to produce espresso-style coffee. Ground coffee and water are brewed inside and then forced through a filter to produce coffee.
If you’re wondering how to use your Aeropress coffee-maker, then keep on reading.
There are a few variables that can alter the type of coffee produced by an AeroPress, so you can switch up the type of coffee drink you make.
For example, by using a metal filter instead of a paper filter, it allows the oils to pass through for a more full-bodied cup of coffee. The paper filter keeps out the oils, creating a ‘cleaner’ flavour profile.
How to make an Americano, latte or cappuccino with the AeroPress
To make an Americano or long black coffee with your AeroPress, simply top up the espresso-style coffee with more hot water. Alternatively, you can add foamed or steamed milk into the coffee to make a cappuccino, flat white or latte.
